Mr Marcus Plien' lecture
Mr. Marcus Plien , Associate Professor from TFH University, Germany
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Different applied international project management systems and strategies for interdisciplinary engineering service and management"
Today Lecture
±±±±±±±±±±±±
But this is just my short note.....
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Some rules of project management:
*Time management (Punctuality)
*Always ask question
*Only speak English in the class
*Give every feedback
Project management : Initiate, Define, Plan, Control, Complete
Project is a temporary group activity designed to produce a unique product, service or result.
Important Characteristics :
* Innovative
* Objective
* Definable
* Complexity
* Risky
* Dynamic
Projects : Building a house, Development of a database for university & development of novel products...
No projects : Cleaning the house, Delivering literature...
Different types of project :
Engineering, software, Builders, Designers, Time-bound,etc
What is project for students?
Writing thesis, excursion & taking an exam......
Important features of a project
********************************
* Defined start & end date & followed a certain schedule
* Use resources specifically allocated to the work
* End results have specific objectives & non-objectives
* Time, cost & quality
* Follows planned, organized approach
* Usually involves a team of people
* Is risky & new & has a specified complexity
=> If these criteria are not met, it is probably not a project
/\
cost / \ scope & quality
/ \
______
Time
Cost+schedule+quality equilibrium -> performed by a team or people
Two essential characteristics
¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥
- Every project produces a unique product or outcome
- Every project has a beginning & an end
Project management functions
Define -> Planning -> Control
(feedback, changes & corrective action)
Life cycle of a project
Concept-> design-> execute->deliver->operate->maintain->dispose
Quality
=====
* High functionality of the product
* To achieve a high quality customers
requests
* To achieve high quality of the product
Time
====
* Time should be scheduled in detail
* Time schedule has to be reconciled with time available
* Time availability is mostly defined by customers
* To keep schedule in harmony with the objective triangle it has to be balanced.
Costs
=====
* In general, costs are defined by customers
* Available capital has to be reconciled with project cost estimation
* Financial situation has to be overview permanently to avoid fatal failure
Challenges in the future
==================
>Growing complexity
(More complex technical solution, increasing networking)
* Technical developments
* Dynamic markets
* Changes in value
* Environmental developments
Purpose of project manager
======================
* Tasks : planning & coordinating a project
* Setting up a project team
* Planning & organizing meetings
* Monitoring & controlling the project
* Responsible for achieving the objectives (time, cost & quality)
* Guiding the project team members in a functional, not disciplinary way
* Responsible for deadlines
* Mediator between the sponsor & project team
* Responsible for the reporting
* Conflict management
Project Controlling
================
Project manager must always be diligent in monitoring & tracking the work...
* Correct customers
* On schedule
* On budget
* Quality is acceptable
* Plan identified
Conclusion
=========
Project : dominate the way we work
Happens only once
Have a definite beginning & end
Successful project managers work :
* Goal oriented
* Systematically
Our "Egg Drop" project...
Project items are water pipes, recycled paper, cotton, tape, string , balloons, glue & egg.
When we dropped the egg from 3rd floor..more than 5m , but our egg didn't break.....
The quality of our project is very good.... :)
To be successful of a project, we need good guidelines, good planning & good collaboration.....
Today many many lectures he gave ......
Thank " Marcus" so much for delivering knowledge.....
